Rotterdam’s Maritime District. Past, present and future.
The harbours in central Rotterdam tell a story that is still unfolding. A story of ships and people, work and everyday life, and a city that keeps changing. We are developing a free mini museum inside the Experience Hub to bring these stories together.
Created with Stichting Erfgoedhavens Rotterdam, the museum will explore the past, present and future of the Maritime District. Its home will be Ponton 1 at Wijnhaven 63. The opening date will be announced later.

The starting point
A small museum with a wider view
How did this area become a meeting point between the historic port and the modern city? What role do its historic vessels and harbours play today? What could the future hold for this part of Rotterdam? These questions shape the museum we are creating.
The aim is to connect the place around you with the city’s history, while also looking at the people, ideas and decisions shaping what comes next. Details of the exhibits will follow as the project develops.
Two stories, one place
Part of the Experience Hub
The exhibition space on the pontoon tells the eventful history of the oldest harbours in the centre of Rotterdam: the people who lived and worked there, the ships that came to unload their cargo and the yards where those ships were repaired. That history runs parallel to our national history and laid the foundations for the Rotterdam of today.
The Hub also hosts a workshop about growing food in the city. Together, these experiences offer different ways to explore Rotterdam: through the story of its waterfront and through practical ideas for urban life. The workshop is a separate, bookable activity.
Admission
Free to visit once open
